Known internationally for his short animations that follow the smoke of Genet's UN CHANT D'AMOUR, through endless poetic circles and spirals of desire. Mead's corpus signifies the resilience and seduction of queer culture as it navigates the gaps in mainstream culture.
In 2013, he launched his first UK solo show, an installation titled Draw the Line, at PayneShurvell Gallery in London. His most recent films, summer 1975 and =, won awards this year at Ann Arbor Film Festival and the Black Mariah Festival. Also in 2017, Pleasure Dome presented Wrik Mead: Local Hero, a retrospective of his 30 years of making time based works.
In 2005, Wrik received his MA Fine Arts at Goldsmiths, University of London. He currently lives in Toronto and teaches in the Digital Painting & Expanded Animation specialization at OCAD University.
